Alan Patrick Rickman (born February 21 1946 - died January 14, 2016) is an internationally renowned actor, made famous by his role in the original Die Hard, as the villain, Hans Gruber. His mysterious and complex performance was praised, and is now one of his most popular roles.
His voice was regarded as the perfect male voice, along with actor Jeremy Irons. The two would later play brothers in the Die Hard film series.

He was well known for playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film Series.
Rickman also portrayed the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Éamon de Valera in Michael Collins. He also appeared in Truly, Madly, Deeply, Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, Dogma and Galaxy Quest.
Death[edit | edit source]
Rickman was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died at the age of 69 due to a minor stroke on January 14, 2016, six weeks before his seventieth birthday. He was cremated at the West London Crematorium in Kensal Green. Two of his films were dedicated to his memory.
