Kurt was a henchman of Simon Gruber attempting to steal gold in the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City.

Kurt was one of Karl's goons working for Simon Gruber. He accompanied John McClane into an elevator, but never walked out because McClane discovered their ruse (after one of them used the European word "lift" instead of elevator and Otto was wearing the badge that belonged to Ricky Walsh). After McClane took out Karl, he killed Kurt. The other two terrorists, Gunther and Otto, were killed afterwards. Kurt was the second terrorist in Simon's group be killed by McClane.
