The M249 SAW Paratrooper

The M249 SAW Paratrooper is an variant of the M249 light machine gun (LMG), previously designated the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), and formally written as Light Machine Gun, 5.56 mm, M249. This weapon is an American version of the Belgian FN Minimi, a light machine gun manufactured by the Belgian company FN Herstal (FN). The M249 is manufactured in the United States and is widely used by the U.S. Armed Forces. The weapon was introduced in 1984 after being judged the most effective of a number of candidate weapons to address the lack of automatic firepower in small units. The M249 provides infantry squads with the heavy volume of fire of a machine gun combined with accuracy and portability approaching that of a rifle.

It was used by John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard.

A Good Day to Die Hard[]

McClane fends off the hitmen with the machine gun.

When Viktor Chagarin's men, led by his main enforcer Alik, attacked the CIA safe house where notorious political prisoner Yuri Komarov was hiding in, off-duty New York cop John McClane takes the M249 SAW machine gun to cover for his son, CIA agent Jack McClane and Komarov. Then as Alik's men were going in the safe house, McClane fires at them with the SAW and kills a few of them with it. As soon as Jack blew a hole to the wall for escape, McClane ran out of ammo and join the others to escape the safe house.
