I think that the books that the Die Hard movies are based up should also be mentioned, namely, Nothing Lasts Forever, and its prequel, which was called The Detective, both of which were made by Roderick Thorp. Strangely enough, if one were to be technical, The Detective would actually be, canon wise, be set between Die Hard: Year One, and the first Die Hard film. Also, the role that was essentially John McCain, but was called Joe Leland, in both the book, as well as film, versions of The Detective, and in Nothing Lasts Forever, was played by frank Sinatra in the film version of The Detective. Moreover, The Detective is also a somewhat negative view of LGBTQIA+ people, though not a dishonest one, and its tone is considerably more offbeat than Nothing Lasts Forever, or the entire Die Hard franchise.
